I think there are all kinds of ways to get lost in thought, but I’ll give you one thing to focus on if you’re the type of person who wants to really lose your mind and just go with it. You’ll find it’s a lot easier to be in the zone when you can get lost in thoughts when you’re already in the zone.
I like to think I have a better sense of self-awareness than most people. I don’t know of a single person who doesn’t think they know who they are and just go with it. You know when you think “I know how to do this” but you think “Am I really that competent??” That’s when you lose your self-awareness. The more people who think they know who they are, the more they lose touch with their own identity.
One of the key components of self-awareness is what psychologists call metapraxis. This means that we all have a particular set of skills that we have to develop to become aware of ourselves and our own thoughts. For instance, if you were to ask me if I was aware of how many times I’ve masturbated in my life, I would have to say that I dont know.
The problem with this assertion is that for most people it’s difficult to think that you don’t know. Self-awareness is the ability to be an observer of your own thought process, to know that you’re being aware of yourself and your thoughts. But that is a trait that many people are missing out on.
There are a few theories about why some people are so lacking in self-awareness. According to psychologist Richard Davidson, the lack of self-awareness can be attributed to a lack of a personal story. Most of us develop a personal story in life that is shaped by our parents, teachers, peers, and other people. When we can’t tell the story of ourselves as we grow, we don’t have the perspective necessary to understand the thoughts that populate our personal stories and make them true.
Davidson is an expert in the field of self-awareness. His work is based on the work of psychologist John Decety and the experiments they conducted in the 1970’s. His research has shown that, when people tell the personal story of themselves, they are more likely to have realistic thoughts about themselves.
We all have a story we tell ourselves about our personal lives. It’s something we don’t often talk about, but we think about all the time. In my own case, for example, I have this really weird story about how I was born with a strange disease my parents never told me about on the day of my birth. I’ve been told that I have a rare form of leukodystrophy.
