The little wee wee French phrases are not only adorable, but also make me smile. The French are known for their charming sense of humor and their tendency to use “I” as a verb instead of “I” as an adverb.
I think that’s just the way French people speak. The main reason for the French language not being used as much in the U.S. as it is here is because it’s so much more difficult for the French to learn English. As a result, the French have a pretty good idea of what we can and cannot say and just can’t seem to get enough of.
In a nutshell, the French really do love I as a verb. As I mentioned earlier, I is used when talking about things that are big, slow, and make sense in context. I also used to be used in a lot of technical/scientific English. If you ask people what the difference between the words is, you’ll hear a lot of I. But I was more of a verb used to mean “I am here” than in its own right.
In the same way that we sometimes say, “I’m not feeling so good,” we also say, “I’m so-so with this.” I mean, it’s not always I, it’s not always I’m that. But we use it when we feel really bad.
I use it all the time when I feel extremely bad, and sometimes when I feel super bad. It’s the perfect way to not feel like a complete dick when things are really bad.
But there’s a difference between the two, I was more of a verb than an adjective. It was more like, I am this, I am that, I am that, I am the other, etc.
French has a more direct feel to it, so you also use it when you are making fun of someone. For example, if you have a friend that is always giving you dirty looks or when you are really sick, you might say “je suis beau, désolé.
I think it has to do with the fact that when we add the adjective to the verb, we are taking the mood and meaning of it and then changing the verb to something else. We are making the word itself into a noun instead of making a verb.
That doesn’t make it any less funny because French has a kind of directness, but it makes it more honest. If we say, je suis beau, désolé, we are saying I am funny because I am not in the mood but I am in the moment. If we add the adjective, we say I am in the mood because I don’t want to be funny but I am in the moment.
This is the kind of thing that people tend to think of when they write in English, but the word we are trying to make a noun from is just a funny way to say the verb. We are saying that we are trying to make a noun from the word we are trying to change. In French, it may be said in the same tone as, je suis amusant, but the meaning is also very direct.
